Leaf carving is inspired by the simple beauty of nature that surrounds us. Local leaves of varying sizes and shapes are gathered and submerged in a glycerin water solution to preserve their pliability and prevent them from drying out. Designs scaled to each leaf’s particular dimensions are then created and transferred to the surface. Carving is performed using a surgical scalpel or X-Acto knife. The process is an act of patience that requires a slow and steady hand.
